Course fees and cancellation policy
Course fees are due prior to the course commencement date; alternative fee arrangements may be applicable depending on individual course requirements.
If the notice of cancellation is received by First 1000 Days Australia:
– more than 15 days* prior to course commencement date: 100% of course fee will be refunded
– between 7–15 days* prior to course commencement date: 50% of course fee will be refunded
– less than 7 days* prior to course commencement date: 0% of course fee will be refunded.
First 1000 Days Australia reserves the right to cancel any course that does not meet the minimum enrolment numbers. Course may also be cancelled in the event of exceptional circumstances.
All course cancellations will be confirmed by First 1000 Days Australia in writing (notice of cancellation). Where cancellation occurs, First 1000 Days Australia will provide (where possible) alternative dates for course delivery, a similar course or a full refund of the course fees.
* Refers to all days, including weekends and public holidays.
Code of conduct policy
This Code of Conduct provides an overview of the First 1000 Days Australia’ s expectations of how participants must conduct themselves during activities. It does not attempt to provide a detailed and exhaustive list; rather it sets out a framework of standards of behaviour that participants are expected to display:
a) Show courtesy, consideration and respect for each other.
b) Adhere to and promote the values of democracy, equality, fairness, human rights and inclusivity.
c) Maintain and develop professional relationships with other training participants, training staff and any guests or visitors.
d) Work collaboratively, and within the spirit of the First 1000 Days Australia’s programs, when dealing with other participants, staff and guests.
e) Accommodate and tolerate different opinions and perspectives, and sort out disagreements by rational and respectful discussion, and without criticism.
f) Follow any reasonable instruction and comply with any lawful direction given by a staff member of the First 1000 Days Australia team.
g) Respect the right of all participants to engage in work and learning without disruptive interruption.
h) Act with integrity and refrain from dishonest behaviour, including (but not limited to) cheating or committing plagiarism, contravening copyright laws, stealing, or taking without permission any property belonging to another person, or breaching the privacy of others.
i) Follow attendance requirements and observe punctuality for all activities.
j) Adhere to any class group agreements.
Release and waiver of liability policy
This First 1000 Days Australia (registered to Weyarn Pty Ltd) Release and Waiver of Liability Policy must be agreed to by ALL Participants aged 18 years or over when they register for a course. If you are under 18, please contact Professor Kerry Arabena for the appropriate form.
By agreeing to the First 1000 Days Australia Release and Waiver of Liability policy, course participants expressly warrant that they are capable of participating in First 1000 Days Australia course activities. Participants also expressly assume all responsibilities for participating in the activities, whether such risks are known or unknown to them at the time. Participants further release First 1000 Days Australia, Weyarn Pty Ltd, all the partners, leaders, employees, officers, directors, volunteers, participants, presenters, consultants and agents from any claim that participants may have, or that participants may have against them, as a result of injury or illness incurred during the course activities.
This release of liability shall include (without limitation) any claims of negligence or breach of warranty. This release of liability is also intended to cover all claims that members of participant’s family or estate, heirs, representatives, or assigns may have against these organisations or the leaders, employees, volunteers, or agents. Further participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless First 1000 Days Australia, Weyarn Pty Ltd, partners and the leaders, employees, volunteers, or agents from any and all claims arising from participation in First 1000 Days Australia activities and programs, or as a result of injury or illness during such activities.
Participants agree that this Release and Waiver of Liability Policy is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by Australian laws, and that if any portion of this agreement is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.
First aid and emergency medical treatment policy
Participants recognise there may be occasions where they need first aid or emergency medical treatment as a result of an accident, illness, or other health condition or injury. By agreeing to the First 1000 Days Australia First Aid and Emergency Medical Treatment Policy participants give permission for agents of First 1000 Days Australia to seek and secure any needed medical attention or treatment for the Participant including hospitalisation, if in the agent’s opinion that such need arises. In doing so, participants agree to pay all fees and costs arising from this action to obtain medical treatment.
Participants also give permission for First 1000 Days Australia staff and/or consultants to give over-the-counter medications as needed, as well as, attending physician(s) and other medical personnel to administer any necessary medical treatment, including surgery and, again, the participants agree to pay for the medical treatment. Participants also give permission to be transported to a medical centre in an emergency situation. And give permission for their emergency contact to be called if such an issue arises.
It is strongly recommended that Participants have adequate insurance coverage for any incidents that may occur in transit to and from, and during, First 1000 Days Australia courses. Employees of other organisations should be covered by their employment contract, but it is Participants’ responsibility to check.
Medical information policy
Prior to the commencement of the course, Participants will advise First 1000 Days Australia staff or agents if there any physical limitations or illnesses that may interfere with your participation in the First 1000 Days Australia course. Participants need to provide advice about severe allergies, reactions to foods, drugs or medicines, especially in circumstances where a special diet or medications are required. Participants also need to indicate if there are social and emotional wellbeing issues, or different abilities of which the course organisers need to be aware. If any information is provided to the course organisers that pertain to medical information, Participants will also provide the names and contact details of their medical doctor and nominate emergency contact details of people who need to be contacted in the case of an emergency.
Prior to participation in First 1000 Days Australia short courses, participants acknowledge there are certain risks with the activities due to transportation to and from, and during the course. In the instance where individuals or businesses are using their own vehicles to travel to and from the course, and during the course, those drivers will take care of their own insurance. Participants permit First 1000 Days Australia to organise and/or provide transportation to locations or sites should this activity be provided. First 1000 Days Australia will not cover the costs associated with participating or presenting on a course unless previously agreed.
Release to use image and likeness policy
On occasion, First 1000 Days Australia or its representatives will be taking photographs and/or making an audio or videotape recording of Participants involved in its activities. Such photographs and audio/visual recordings may be used:
in printed and electronic advertising materials to let others know about the activities of First 1000 Days Australia
by First 1000 Days Australia or its agents to produce resources for staff training, social media, on our website or to promote First 1000 Days Australia and Weyarn Pty Ltd
in educational resources (e.g. publications about First 1000 Days Australia), which may be made available for sale to the public. Participants will not be entitled to compensation for such use.
First 1000 Days Australia Short Course Participants may choose to provide or withhold consent to any such audio or visual record to be used, distributed or displayed in the ways described above. This consent includes, but is not limited to, photographs, videotapes and audio recordings.
